Driving growth & business development of tech services at Byte

*Internally, the job title for this role is a Principal Consultant and will be at the Senior Lead level*


At Byte we don’t believe in siloed teams – creative, technology, media and data overlap. Which is why we’ve never had a growth team before, because this responsibility has been distributed throughout the interdisciplinary leadership team. We are now looking at hiring our first dedicated Principal Consultant, who will be overseeing the growth of our emerging marketing technologies; conversational marketing, dynamic creative, and the metaverse (AR, Gaming, Real time production).

The Principal Consultant will work closely with the leadership team, and the tech team to set growth goals, launch growth initiatives, manage the new business pipeline, define our offer and strengthen our partnerships with client and tech platforms.

We need someone who understands our clients’ customers, who can put themselves in their shoes to write proposals and sell ideas that exceed expectations. Someone who understands that brands are competing for consumers’ attention and have at best a couple of seconds to inspire some sort of interaction. We need people who can understand our client's challenges, identify and sell the right tech enabled solutions and ultimately deliver a tangible ROI for our clients, and revenue growth for Byte.

The Principal Consultant will be expected to deliver:

  • Setting and meeting new biz goals and launching new business initiatives around Byte’s tech offer

  • Shaping the narrative around tech services, with marketing, strategic initiatives

  • Building relationships and partnerships with clients and platforms to intersect with demand

  • Consultative selling, managing the new business pipeline, pitching, proposals and references

  • Negotiation when closing the deal


The role of the Principal Consultant is exciting, varied and constantly evolving. In this role, you will:

  • Set and meet new biz goals and launch new business initiatives around Byte’s tech offer
    • Guide long-term growth objectives, requirements and positioning

    • Meet annual new business targets

    • Proactively track new opportunities and emerging trends

    • Understand how to adapt and position our services to brands and their briefs

    • Propose and develop new ways of connecting with key brands

  • Shape the narrative around tech services, with marketing, strategic initiatives
    • Write and maintain Byte's tech cred slides, and case studies

    • Work with Dept's marketing team to identify PR & Event opportunities

    • Shape Byte's service offer narrative and work with Leadership to communicate across Dept

    • Shape the way we communicate our services around dynamic creative, conversational marketing and the metaverse (e.g. exploring the need for sub brands)

  • Build relationships and partnerships with clients and platforms to intersect with demand
    • Develop relationships with Dept leadership

    • Work with finance and legal to ensure commercials and contracts are in place

    • Work with the head of partnerships and leadership to develop and maintain strong relationships with tech platforms (Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook etc.)

  • Consultative selling, manage the new business pipeline, pitching, proposals and references
    • Manage the tech new biz pipeline funnel, and share monthly updates for leadership

    • A very robust knowledge of what Byte can and can't do, with industry leading knowledge in key emerging technologies

    • A commercial approach to prioritising and passing on opportunities

    • Strong relationship building to understand the client need, and sell in the right solution (and identify when the opportunity might sit within other teams at Byte and Dept)

    • Pre-sales work to validate budget, timing, and decision process

    • Work with clients to identify key project goals/objectives

    • Develop presentations highlighting project goals, approach, example work

    • Deliver proposal with process, methods and core deliverables

    • Provide work references

  • Negotiation when closing the deal
    • Agree on terms and conditions

    • Work with client to finalise project timing

    • Hand-off to account and project management team

    • Land, expand, replicate



  • A high level of relevant experience within a new-biz focused role

  • A solid understanding & experience within social media marketing and digital marketing/agencies

  • Experience and interest in emerging marketing technologies

  • Expert understanding of digital paid media and data

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex subjects simply

  • Ability to work with senior clients on key strategy projects and comfortable presenting to C-level audiences

  • Very efficient, producing significant output with minimal wasted effort

  • Focused under pressure and can get stuff done on a tight deadline

  • Loves learning and teaching new things

  • Great interpersonal and listening skills

  • Very organised, with a high attention to detail

  • Ability to work autonomously and find solutions without help

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in and loving a marketing agency / start-up environment

  • Experience working with developers to build technology solutions
